How to Make a Cheap VoIP for you
Sit a VoIP adapter beside your Internet network router or beside your modem. Mount an RJ-14 wall jack beside the adapter, using screws or mounting tape supplied with the jack. Mount another RJ-14 telephone jack on the wall where you wish to place your landline phone. Unscrew or pry off the top cover of both jacks to open them and loosen the red and green terminal screws inside both jacks, using a screwdriver.
Run a telephone cable from one jack to the other, but leave six inches of extra length at both ends. Peel off the cable's outer cover at both ends by three inches to expose the inner color-coded wires. Remove -inch of plastic insulation form the tip of the red and green wires, using a wire stripper.
Wrap both red and green wires clockwise around their matching color-coded terminal screws on the jack. Tighten and secure each connection, turning the screws clockwise with a slotted screwdriver, and replace the jack cover.
Plug one end of the Ethernet patch cable supplied with the adapter into its matching RJ-45 port at the back of your modem or router. Plug the other end into the port behind the adapter and turn on the adapter. Plug the telephone patch cord supplied with the adapter into the RJ-14 port at the back of your adapter, and plug its other end into the wall jack.
Plug the landline phone into the wall jack on the other end of the line. Lift its handset and listen for a dial tone. Call your cell phone or someone to test the line.
